So you might be asking yourself how could a Facebook profile picture overlay save lives? Well when amazing people, who truly love others, all come together amazing things happen. Last December The Compassion Collective was created, which is now made up of many amazing people to include authors Glennon Doyle Melton, Elizabeth Gilbert, Brené Brown, Cheryl Strayed, Rob Bell, Valarie Kaur, Marie Forleo and Laverne Cox. The original campaign raised over $1.4 million dollars for refugees with over 40 thousand donations and over 18 thousand users changing their profile pictures to the Stand With Love Overlay.

Refugees welcome video

It is truly amazing how providence brings people together whose hearts are in tune with one another. During the refugee crisis last year, which still continues today, we published an overlay that started to go viral in a negative way. It was a simple overlay with the text #RefugeesWelcome on the overlay. We published it on our American Flag Profile Picture Tool Facebook page and like I mentioned it started to get a lot of negative attention. What most people don’t know is that a member of our team here at ProfileOverlays.com is actually the son of a Syrian refugee. He was also the visionary behind the American flag overlay last July, which has now been used by millions of people. Most pages would have been happy for the viral attention, but we elected to delete the post. The reason why was people did not understand our hearts of what #RefugeesWelcome actually meant. This is where the YouTube video came in and we posted that on our page to explain more. This is how The Compassion Collective found us through an amazing team member of the Momastery.com blog.

“I got this message from Amy. She said she had watched the video about my Syrian refugee neighbors and she believed we were destined to work together.”

We did begin working together and created the overlay above and since last December countless lives have been saved, children have been fed, families have been given shelter and the work continues helping with the refugees who are displaced from their homes. To read more about how all of the funds have been used in support of the refugees go here. (Side note: 100% of the funds raised go directly to the cause of helping the refugees). This week The Compassion Collective decided to take Mother’s Day back and help raise more awareness and funding for the refugees as well as the homeless youth in America.
